How To Take The Stress Out Of Building An Online Business Or Brand!
Yesterday I received an email from a prospective client, the opening sentence ending”…trying to grow a business in this oversaturated market is impossible…” and this got me thinking.
When I decided to embark on my business and banding journey, I remember how anxious I was. Questions constantly flooding my head:
But nothing compares to the added stress we now face as the entire world wakes up to the joys of becoming an entrepreneur, I mean every one seems to be building a business or branding now a days! You just need to open your social media and you are hit with a plethora of ads or posts selling the next best thing or the latest strategy (Can we catch a break?).
I am sure some of you are experiencing anxiety levels through the roof about either getting started or growing your online business or brand, especially if you are currently in a day job or are a Solopreneur (someone who creates most, if not all, of the magic in their business).
Right now, you will be experiencing a myriad of emotions and be asking yourself 101 questions:
Your anxiety will have you doubting everything, your abilities, your relationships, your mood, the business itself.
The problem is that in this state, it is impossible to make the right choices for you or your business/brand.
That’s why I wanted to share a few tips with you about how to manage anxiety.
If you find yourself staring at a computer screen in a tiz, then it is time to take a break from it all, emails, skype calls, zoom the lot. If you break for 10mins, maybe go for a walk or take a power nap when you resume you will find that everything seems so much clearer.
I can see some of you nodding your head and wondering why? But what you may not know is that your brain actually processes information from the past. What do I mean by this, well as you are focussing on one task your brain is processing the data from the task before. This is the reason why when you come back from your break; you will have much more clarity and why the break is necessary, no matter how much you tell yourself you don’t have time for a break!
Whenever I feel my stress level going up, I distance myself from the situation for a short while, I like to breathe and do a form of slow exercise (tai chi), and I always find that this does wonders to get the creativity flowing again.
Having someone who has been before you, who now wears the scars and owns the bruises is precisely what you need when you are anxious. They are the shining light that can guide you in the right direction. Knowing that this person is there for you to ask questions and get support will change the game. You will instantly relax into your stride and not be afraid to explore as they are always in your corner helping you to navigate the myriad of ideas that you have and give you a step by step strategy for implementing it.
Having a mentor changed the game for me, it was costly (20k to be exact), but worth every penny and now I reap the benefits of this investment every single day. If you’re a 9-5 juggler (someone balancing a 9-5 alongside your passion) or a Solopreneur, then as you know, time is not on your side. Your mentor will help you to go quicker, make smarter decisions and give you absolute peace of mind.

Start listening to your body and be mindful of what triggers your anxiety. It’s the failure to do so that triggers that destructive domino effect, and sends you crashing over the edge where you either get angry, berate yourself for not being good enough or just do nothing. If you do not recognise what triggers you, then you risk ruining what could have been a really productive day.
Anytime I am launching a new program or getting ready to host a mastermind session, I’m always monitoring my stress levels. This allows me to take quick action and do what calms me down and sets me in a space where I am way more productive.
Whenever you are having a “freakout,” don’t worry, it happens to the best of us; before you think about throwing your phone out the window or starting an argument with your spouse to deflect, ask yourself two questions:
You will usually realise there is no need for the freak out after all.
For instance, during the early phase of growing my business and brand, I hesitated to send out emails to my list or to write blogs, I would create a mountain out of a molehill and then chicken out. Until one day, I asked myself what’s the worst that could happen? Ok so someone may unsubscribe, but, what’s the best that could happen? – I could change someone’s life forever. From that moment, freaking out over an email or writing a blog became selfish and a thing of the past.
Now you can’t shut me up 😉
Having been in this game for a while now. I find that the quickest way to transform anxiety into success is to flip the script. Understand that anxiety means that you are growing, stepping out of your comfort zone and taking the necessary uncomfortable action. Once you genuinely grasp this then every time you feel anxious, it will immediately turn to excitement as you will recognise you are now moving closer to exactly where you need to be.
Remember, self-care is a requirement of a budding cyber-celeb (yes that’s you!) It helps you be the best version of yourself and gives you the energy that you need to grow your brand and business. Understanding how your mind works will make you so much more productive and using the tips I’ve shared in this post will make you a strong leader who’s smart, savvy and knows their way around challenging times.
